Data notes
WHO’s alert and response table is the source of truth for Kenya, Uganda, and France country totals (reviewed 2026-10-07). DRC totals continue to use INSP. Updates stop for manual review if WHO counts differ from the reviewed data. WHO does not report Kenya’s probable counts (shown as “–”); these are not treated as zero. Uganda’s one probable case and one probable death are separate from the confirmed and suspected totals above. WHO table dates are reporting cutoffs, not case-level dates, so the dated Uganda and Kenya sources below are retained for charts and playback. France is included in the cards, totals, and cumulative chart, with its case plotted on June 24, 2026 (manually supplied reporting date; not derived from WHO).
Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) headline indicators and health-zone charts are generated from the INRB/UMIE BDBV2026-Data repository, using the build-2026-10-12-722420f data build. Uganda timeline dates use the latest checked-in snapshot from the Uganda Ministry of Health Ebola Updates dashboard, captured on 2026-08-09. Kenya’s case history comes from the WHO report of October 6, 2026: one imported confirmed case in Nairobi and one death. The patient arrived October 3 and died October 5; October 6 is the WHO notification date used in the charts and map playback.

Genomic surveillance context
Bundibugyo ebolavirus public sequence dashboard
In the DRC, scientists from the Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) began sequencing immediately, and sharing interpretation through multiple channels such as LinkedIn and Virological. Scientists at the Central Public Health Laboratory (CPHL), Kampala - Uganda have also completed sequencing and shared data. Sequence data from both countries is being shared in near real-time through Pathoplexus.
It is thanks to these scientists doing good work and sharing it rapidly that I am able to aggregate and share the visuals here. Thank you!
922 sequences from the current outbreak are available from 4 countries (Democratic Republic of the Congo and France and Germany and Uganda) with a collection-to-release turnaround time range of 1-239 days (median 33 days). Sequences from the current outbreak were submitted by Pathogen Genomic Lab (646), Pathogen Genomic Lab, INRB (252), Central Public Health Laboratories, Uganda (20), Charite Virology (1), CNR FHV (1), Marburg Virology (1), NEIDL (1).
