Official case context
Country-reported case indicators
Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) case indicators are generated from the INRB/INOHA and INSP Ebola_DRC_2026 data repository, which compiles epidemiological and operational data from the Institut National de Santé Publique (INSP) SitRep MVE PDF series. Uganda case and death counts are parsed from the WHO daily epidemiological update image.
Regional Outbreak Context
There are 3 affected provinces in the DRC: Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu. They form a contiguous cluster. Affected provinces border Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania.
DRC Province-level data
Explore Democratic Republic of the Congo INSP case indicators by affected province, health zone, and case status.
DRC Ituri Province Case Epi Curve by Health Zone
Democratic Republic of the Congo INSP daily new confirmed plus suspected cases in Ituri, stacked by reported health zone.
DRC Ituri Province Health-Zone Case Distribution
Democratic Republic of the Congo health zones are shaded by cumulative confirmed plus suspected cases in the selected province.
DRC North Kivu Province Case Epi Curve by Health Zone
Democratic Republic of the Congo INSP daily new confirmed plus suspected cases in North Kivu, stacked by reported health zone.
DRC North Kivu Province Health-Zone Case Distribution
Democratic Republic of the Congo health zones are shaded by cumulative confirmed plus suspected cases in the selected province.
DRC South Kivu Province Case Epi Curve by Health Zone
Democratic Republic of the Congo INSP daily new confirmed plus suspected cases in South Kivu, stacked by reported health zone.
DRC South Kivu Province Health-Zone Case Distribution
Democratic Republic of the Congo health zones are shaded by cumulative confirmed plus suspected cases in the selected province.
Case indicators and DRC health-zone breakdowns are sourced from the INRB/INOHA and INSP Ebola_DRC_2026 data repository and the INSP SitRep MVE PDF series. Uganda national counts are parsed from the WHO daily epidemiological update image.
Genomic surveillance context
Bundibugyo ebolavirus public sequence dashboard
In the DRC, scientists from the Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) began sequencing immediately, and sharing interpretation through multiple channels such as LinkedIn (see post to the right) and Virological. Scientists at the Central Public Health Laboratory (CPHL), Kampala - Uganda have also completed sequencing and shared data. Sequence data from both countries is being shared in near real-time through Pathoplexus.
It is thanks to these scientists doing good work and sharing it rapidly that I am able to aggregate and share the visuals here. Thank you!
16 sequences from the current outbreak are available from 2 countries (Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda) with a collection-to-release turnaround time range of 1 -26 days (median 13 days) . Sequences from the current outbreak were submitted by Pathogen Genomic Lab, INRB (14), Central Public Health Laboratories, Uganda (1), Charite Virology (1).
Phylogenetic context
The embedded Nextstrain build shows available Bundibugyo ebolavirus genomes with tips colored by outbreak. Explore the complete analysis in the full Nextstrain Bundibugyo ebolavirus build . For more information on how to interpret phylogenetic trees like the one below, see the Applied Genomic Epidemiology Handbook section on phylogenetic trees.
Built from the GenomicEpi Ebola workflow, a fork of nextstrain/ebola.
This embedded view shows only the tree panel; use the full Nextstrain build for map, metadata, and other Nextstrain views.

Acknowledgements
We gratefully acknowledge the authors, originating laboratories, and submitting laboratories of the genetic sequences and metadata for sharing their work. Please be kind and follow the data use terms applicable to each sequence, and err on the side of being collaborative.
Analysis
Our bioinformatic processing workflow can be found at github.com/genomicepi/ebola, which is a fork of github.com/nextstrain/ebola. The only modifications were to metadata, colors, and display defaults.
Underlying Data
This build uses Bundibugyo ebolavirus records shared through Pathoplexus. All sequences used in this build are available through Pathoplexus SeqSet PP_SS_2047.
Some data in this build may be RESTRICTED-USE, meaning use in preprints or publications is restricted. Please see the Pathoplexus Data Use Terms for more details.
Additional outbreak context and sequence announcements are available in this virological post.
